Andrej Karpathy, renowned AI researcher and former Director of AI at Tesla, has announced the launch of his new venture, Eureka Labs. The company aims to revolutionize education by integrating advanced AI technology to create a more accessible and effective learning experience.
The product
Eureka Labs is introducing its first product, LLM101n, which is touted as the world’s best AI course. This undergraduate-level course is designed to guide students through the process of training their own AI, resembling a scaled-down version of the AI Teaching Assistant that supports the course. The course materials will be available online, with plans to run both digital and physical cohorts, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
In the announcement, Karpathy outlined the vision for Eureka Labs, emphasizing the potential of AI to transform education. He described a scenario where learning is akin to studying with an expert like Richard Feynman, but scaled globally through the use of generative AI. This AI would assist in delivering high-quality, personalized education, making it accessible to anyone, anywhere.
A new type of school
"Our goal is to create a new kind of school that is AI native," said Karpathy. "With the advances in generative AI, the possibility of having an infinitely patient, multilingual tutor for everyone is within reach. The combination of a human teacher designing the curriculum and an AI assistant guiding students through it can democratize education, allowing vast numbers of people to learn a wide array of subjects."
