Baidu's new AI video generation model

Created on July 2|Last edited on July 2
Baidu has launched MuseSteamer, a new AI tool that generates short videos from images, with a clear focus on business applications. The model can produce clips up to 10 seconds long and is available in three versions: Turbo, Pro, and Lite. Unlike competitors that have leaned into consumer markets, Baidu has decided to limit MuseSteamer to enterprise users for now. There is no public version of the app, and no consumer rollout has been announced.

Comparison with global and domestic rivals

MuseSteamer enters an increasingly crowded space where global players like OpenAI and Chinese tech giants such as ByteDance, Tencent, and Alibaba have already deployed video-generation tools. While OpenAI’s Sora and others often push consumer subscriptions, Baidu’s tool is business-only, likely targeting marketing, media, and internal enterprise use cases. The emphasis is on efficiency and scale rather than personalization or entertainment.

New search engine features integrate multimodal input

Alongside MuseSteamer, Baidu has redesigned its search engine. The update introduces support for longer queries and adds voice and image input as valid search methods. These changes align Baidu’s search with the broader shift toward multimodal AI, where users can interact with systems through more natural and flexible means. The platform now delivers content that is more precisely aligned with user intent, powered by Baidu’s underlying AI infrastructure.

Mounting competition in China’s AI sector

Baidu is facing increasing competition in both the chatbot and AI tool segments. ByteDance has released its Doubao chatbot, and Tencent is promoting its Yuanbao model, both of which have gained user traction. While Baidu was among the first to push large language models in China through its Ernie platform, the environment has become more competitive. The dual release of MuseSteamer and the upgraded search engine suggests Baidu is attempting to solidify its relevance and technical edge as rivals close in.
