Lambda has secured $480 million in Series D funding to expand its AI cloud platform. The round was co-led by Andra Capital and SGW, with participation from investors like Andrej Karpathy, ARK Invest, Fincadia Advisors, G Squared, and In-Q-Tel (IQT). Major hardware players, including Pegatron, Supermicro, Wistron, and Wiwynn, also joined, reinforcing Lambda’s position in the AI ecosystem. Existing investors such as 1517, Crescent Cove, and USIT also participated.

Expanding AI Compute and Software Tools

With this funding, Lambda plans to scale its cloud infrastructure to meet the growing demand for AI training, fine-tuning, and deployment. The company will roll out more GPUs and develop new software tools to streamline AI workflows. Lambda Chat, which supports open-source models like DeepSeek-R1, will continue evolving as part of this expansion.

Open Source and the Future of AI Reasoning

Over the past year, open-source AI models have gained significant traction, thanks to projects like Llama, DeepSeek-R1, and Mochi 1. These models make state-of-the-art AI accessible to businesses, researchers, and individuals. Lambda emphasizes reasoning as a key driver of AI progress, allowing better model performance through increased compute at inference time rather than costly training runs.

A Vision for Widespread AI Adoption

Lambda envisions a future where AI is a daily tool for everyone, powered by widespread access to GPUs. The company is positioning itself as a leader in providing the computational backbone for the AI revolution, supporting open-source innovation and scalable AI infrastructure.
