Meta's New Ray-Ban Display Glasses: AI Meets Everyday Wear

Created on September 19|Last edited on September 19
Meta has unveiled its first AI glasses with an integrated in-lens display, developed in partnership with Ray-Ban. Called Meta Ray-Ban Display, the device combines stylish eyewear with advanced computing, allowing users to access notifications, translation, navigation, and AI-powered assistance without pulling out a phone. Priced starting at $799, the glasses are positioned as a consumer-ready step toward hands-free, everyday augmented intelligence.

Private In-Lens Display and Gesture Controls

The most striking feature is the private in-lens display, seamlessly embedded in Transitions lenses that adjust automatically to lighting conditions. This display shows texts, navigation prompts, translations, or AI-generated responses. Control is handled through the Meta Neural Band, a wrist-worn device that uses electromyography sensors to interpret subtle muscle movements. This allows users to scroll, select, and interact with the glasses using simple hand gestures.

Communication and Messaging Features

Meta Ray-Ban Display integrates with WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, enabling users to discreetly view and respond to messages. Quick replies, image and video sharing, and even two-way video calls are supported directly through the display. With a built-in 12MP camera and 3x zoom, users can capture photos, record video, or live stream from their perspective, hands-free.

AI-Powered Assistance and Live Translation

Meta AI is central to the experience, delivering contextual help in real time. The glasses can display live captions during conversations, generate translations on the fly, and provide navigation directions or local search results. Meta positions this as a tool not only for convenience but also for accessibility, offering utility for people with hearing or mobility challenges.

Battery Life and Everyday Use

The glasses offer up to six hours of mixed-use battery life, with a charging case that extends usage to about 24 hours. The Meta Neural Band itself lasts up to 18 hours on a charge. With an IPX4 water resistance rating, the device is built for daily wear but is not designed for submersion or heavy exposure to liquids.

Privacy and Transparency

Meta emphasizes transparency in capture and sharing. A visible LED signals when the glasses are recording or streaming, and users are alerted if the LED is obstructed. All device settings and privacy controls are managed through the Meta AI app, where users can customize their experience and access stored media.
