We have been waiting this for a long time!

Nvidia announces the release of their Linux GPU drivers on their Nvidia Developer website with a very discreet blog post.

What does it mean?

This is the release of the kernel modules, this will enable PC vendors and Linux developers to integrate Nvidia hardware better into the OS. It will also enable distributions to customize these drivers to work out of the box. No more "install proprietary drivers" setup afterward. The driver is still in beta and supports out-of-the-box Turing and Ampere GPUS (RTX 20XX and 30XX series).
Cuda and user modules are not open-sourced. You will still need to get your Cuda Toolkit binaries.
✅ The code is available on github. It already has 5k stars and more than 300 forks.

In the coming months, the NVIDIA Open GPU kernel modules will make their way into the recently launched Canonical Ubuntu 22.04 LTS.
We will be surely trying these drivers for ML as Nvidia claims they are production-ready!🚀
