With surgical procedures as delicate as eye surgery, those who perform it must undergo years of intensive training. Even then, the potential for human error isn't nothing. Robotics has served a supporting role in medical procedures (as well as areas like medical diagnosis and drug discovery) at an ever-increasing rate in recent years, mitigating rates of human error and making the job generally easier.
ForSight Robotics wants to bring these powerful AI and robotics to eye surgery, and that's what their ORYOM platform promises to do. The technology described by them allows for precision control 10x that of human hands, something needed for the extremely delicate domain of the human eye. Partially manually controlled by a human, partially assisted with machine learning models, ForSight Robotics' platform will surely improve the field of eye surgery.
Who's funding ForSight Robotics and where's the money going?
ForSight Robotics announced that they have raised $55 million in a Series A funding round today. The funding round was led by Adani Group with additional participation from Eclipse Ventures, Mithril Capital Management, Precision Capital Advisors, Provenio Capital, Reiya ventures, and The Ljungstrom Family Office.
While they have successfully performed cataract surgery on animal models, they estimate that the ORYOM platform will be ready to treat human patients by 2026. The money raised will continue the development of their platform.
