Hyundai Motor Group, a little over a year after acquiring robotics & AI lab Boston Dynamics, has announced a $400 million investment towards opening a Boston Dynamics AI Institute situated in Cambridge, Massachusetts.
The new institute is intended to be a center for AI and robotics research housed in a densely-packed community of top talent researchers.

The institute will be working not only on their own projects but working in collaboration with nearby universities and private companies to develop solutions to the most pressing challenges facing advanced robotics, including areas like machine learning and robotics engineering. Aspiring researchers and engineers of all levels will be hired to support a strong and varied workplace.
Instead of applying their efforts to a broad or generalized idea of AI research, the Boston Dynamics AI Institute will be focusing on four key areas: Cognitive AI, athletic AI, organic hardware design, and ethics & policy. This focused vision will surely speed up their goal of developing practical robotics applications which can achieve their goal of enhancing industry and supporting a human lifestyle.
