Meta AI is hosting the MyoChallenge as part of NeurIPS 2022, a yearly conference for machine learning and artificial intelligence. This challenge comes alongside a few others also being hosted by Meta AI for the conference, such as the Habitat Rearrangement Challenge.

What is the MyoChallenge?

The MyoChallenge is a competition hosted by Meta AI as part of NeurIPS 2022. It tasks participants to train an ML model to control a hand to reorient a numbered die and rotate Baoding balls without dropping them.
The MyoChallenge is built on a framework for musculoskeletal motor control called MyoSuite. The framework presents an environment containing a controllable human-accurate anatomical model of a hand, perfect for the study of AI-controlled complex dexterity tests. It comes with a number of built-in challenges, such as digit-thumb touching and object reorientation.
Participants will be judged on only two of the built-in challenges: Die reorientation and Baoding ball rotation. The die reorientation track will require the model to move the die around until the target digit is visible, showing an understanding of die face relation understanding and deliberate object reorientation. The Baoding ball rotation track requires strong dexterity and coordination as to not drop the balls while swirling them in the hand.

How to participate in the MyoChallenge

Information on how to participate in the MyoChallenge can be found at the GitHub repository. Challenge submissions are handled through it's EvalAI challenge page.
The challenge will be split into two phases, starting with the open stage on August 12th and running through to October 20th. The open stage encourages everyone who wants to participate to do so, being automatically ranked on a leaderboard. The second phase, the play-off stage, pits top scorers from the first phase against each other, lasting only a week from October 22nd to October 28th. The results will be announced during the NeurIPS 2022 conference.
