With big tech companies like Google and Facebook commanding the machine learning spotlight, yet standing far enough apart to make cross-platform functionality a struggle, industry scalability for custom workflows is left in an unfortunate state despite individual frameworks' compatibility claims and open-source-ness. At least, that's what the people at Modular believe and have dedicated themselves to fixing.
Modular is developing a platform that they say will unlock the potential for unified AI development. The Modular platform is designed to be, well, modular; A framework in which all the pieces of the machine learning puzzle can be attached in any way the developer needs. With those goals in mind, the people at Modular hope that their platform will "move us from the era of AI research to the era of production AI".

Who's funding Modular and where's the money going?

Today, Modular has announced the completion of a $30 million Seed funding round led by GV, with additional participation form Factory, SV Angel, and Greylock.
As this is their first funding round and the company was only recently revealed, the money will be going towards the development of the Modular platform.
