OpenAI has plans to make the API services for their GPT-3 and Embeddings models more affordable for users, dropping prices across the board. This change was apparently a long time coming, now possible thanks to progress in the cost efficiency of keeping these models running.
The price changes will take place on September 1; Any tokens currently paid for will not have their price retroactively refunded, and any tokens purchased prior to September 1 will be at the current, more expensive price. As of September 1, prices will drop from around half their current price to one-third their current price.
They will be as follows:

This does not change the price for using the fine-tuned versions of these models, and none of these price changes are applying to other OpenAI projects, such as DALL·E 2.
