OpenAI announced today that the waitlist for DALL·E 2 has been discontinued in favor of a regular immediate-use sign-up process. Now, new users looking to play with DALL·E 2, as well as those who were stuck in waitlist limbo, can sign up and play with it immediately.
The removal of the waitlist system comes after a lengthy process of safety improvements and feature additions the developers behind DALL·E 2 wanted to make sure were set in place and working.
DALL·E 2 is still officially in beta, so there are surely improvements we have yet to see, but perhaps the team now feels that it's in a stable enough state to let the waitlist go. On the other hand, with a model like Stable Diffusion becoming the de facto image generation model in the eyes of the internet, OpenAI could be trying to get some attention back on DALL·E by ditching the waitlist.
Regardless, you can sign up for immediate DALL·E 2 access today at their sign-up page here: https://labs.openai.com/auth/signup (at least, once they've fixed their servers to handle the massive influx of sign-ups)
