Google, as of late, invested $300 million (USD) into Anthropic AI, a startup focused on researching and developing safe models. Google will be sharing its cloud computing resources with Anthropic and this partnership may rival Microsoft's partnership with OpenAI.
Google also recently announced Vizier, an open-source Python library for hyperparameter tuning based on Google's AI Platform Vizier. This tuning-at-scale library is aimed at "developing and benchmarking algorithms for automated machine learning (AutoML)".
Speaking of the current AI craze and funding:
  • C3.AI, a company specializing in delivering AI solutions to other enterprises, stock skyrocketed by 77%
  • Phantom AI, an autonomous vehicle startup providing AI solutions for AV researchers, raised nearly $37 million (USD) in their Series C
  • Lavender.ai, a company focused on assisting user's with writing emails, raised $13.2 million
In other news, LAION-AI released Open-Assistant, ChatGPT's open-source equivalent! Though their Open-Assistant is still a work-in-progress, they already accumulated nearly 9k stars on GitHub!
A lot has happened since ChatGPT's release: greater funding, open source counterparts, a variety of apps powered by ChatGPT, dozens of news headlines, and plenty of AI ethics issues raised. It's safe to say ChatGPT has spurred a great deal of competition in the industry world.
