Inflection AI, an AI startup with just a couple years of existence, has raised $1.3B to fund their product, Pi, a ChatGPT competitor.
Inflection was founded by co-founder of LinkedIn, Reid Hoffman, and the co-founder of DeepMind, Mustafa Suleyman with investments from the likes of Bill Gates, Eric Schmidt, and more.
Inflection's funding amount places it well above other well-known generative AI startups like Character.AI, Stability AI, Cohere, and Runway. So, what does Inflection provide that other LLMs released by Google, Microsoft, and other AI companies don't? Inflection's LLM, Pi, stands for personal intelligence.
Their AI is suited for conversation. Unlike ChatGPT, Bing, and Bard, Pi is tailored towards providing the user a personalized assistant that, through an upbeat tone and eccentric emojis, talks to you just like a human would.
Below is an excerpt of me chatting (jokingly) with Pi about my basketball hobby!

It's safe to say, the interface, dialogue, tone, and personality is a lot more expressive and evident in Pi than in something like ChatGPT!
