The world of AI-generated imaging has just taken a massive leap forwards. DALL·E 2 has been officially announced by OpenAI, being an upgraded version of their previous project, DALL·E. DALL·E 2 proves more accurate and more highly detailed than it's predecessor, with extra capabilities and even some safety measures built in.
Right now, DALL·E 2 isn't available for use by the general public, but you are free to join the waitlist to get access. Until then, keep tabs on projects using DALL·E 2 if you're interested. You can read the official post by OpenAI here: https://openai.com/dall-e-2/

What is DALL·E 2?

DALL-E 2 is an AI system created by OpenAI capable of generating brand new images based on some given text input. DALL·E 2 has been trained on databases of labelled images to be able to not just understand what's in the image, but how to create a brand new instance of whatever was in the image. Ask it to paint a panda for you, and it'll paint you a panda nobody has ever seen before.
This extends beyond object recognition and recreation, being able to render the image in a variety of styles it's learned, from picasso to photo-realism, and combine many concepts together to make a truly unique image. It is also capable of modifying existing images, so if you're like to add a hat-wearing corgi to a picture of your livingroom floor, it's more than equipped to do just that.

Why do we care?

DALL·E 2 is an upgraded version of DALL·E, an AI system of similar functionality, and this upgrade certainly proves important for the future of AI image generation and text interpretation.
For the machine learning scientists, this power is something to be excited about, it really goes to show just what machine learning is capable of in organic mediums like imagery and language.
For the artists, DALL·E 2 can help foster creativity and generate works of art to inspire many people. It can be used as a valueable tool by artists to create and edit their works of art.
At the very least, DALL·E 2 could be a very fun thing to play around with. Looking at silly images is the average internet user's greatest passtime, and DALL·E 2 appears to be a master in the field of creating them, with the simple too
